Municipality Building Brno
The new Brno Municipal Building is conceived as an open civic institution at the meeting point of three distinct urban fabrics and landscape systems. Together with the existing municipal building and Morava Palace, it establishes a new sequence of public spaces connecting the city centre, the riverfront and the future Highline park. At ground level, the compact volume becomes porous, drawing pedestrian movement through an internal urban street that links the main piazzetta with Koliště Street. Its defining feature is a transparent vertical “billboard” that combines public circulation, meeting spaces and panoramic views while revealing the inner life of the institution. Wrapped in vegetation, this inhabited façade extends the surrounding park upwards and transforms the building into a visible civic landmark. A cascade of planted terraces carries the landscape back towards street level, improves the local microclimate and provides outdoor spaces for municipal employees. A system of atria and adaptable voids brings daylight deep into the plan, simplifies orientation and encourages informal encounters among staff and visitors.
