Elementary school Stará Boleslav


The site for the new primary school is located in a residential area. The free plot of land is surrounded by single-family houses and a company factory at the top north. How to introduce a dialogue between 2 types of urban morphology that have different functional regimes? In order to minimize the impact of a large school program in such a constrained plot, the design proposal set up 3 pavilions that correspond to 3 different functions: community, education and sport.
They gradually fit the existing situation: the lowest volumes are the closest to the houses. To extend the possibilities of outdoor activities on the plot, the roof of the entrance pavilion is accessible to the children. This area becomes an extension of the classrooms, social meeting place or little garden that also supports biodiversity on the site.
